If you have suffered with sciatica you will know just how painful and frustrating it can be.

The common approach is to take painkillers, which may numb the pain, but does nothing to actually remove the cause of the problem. Painkillers are often unreliable, have side effects and are taken in higher and higher dosages, but become less and less effective.

What is the cause of sciatica?

For the leg to function properly, the brain sends signals down the spinal cord and out through the nerves of the lower back, which run through the hips and down the legs. Many conditions in the lower back, such as a slipped disc, spinal degeneration or subluxations (misalignments) can put pressure on these nerves. When these nerves are pressured they can become damaged, and as a result you may feel pain, numbness, tingling, pins and needles and weakness in your buttock, leg or foot.

Treatment of sciatica

The first step is to see your Durban Chiropractor for an examination to determine the cause of your Sciatica and if you can be helped through Chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjustments can help to relieve sciatica, by taking the pressure off the nerves, so that these nerves can heal naturally, and hopefully prevent an unnecessary surgery.

After 2 months of constantly taking painkillers to try ease the sharp pain in my back, and numbness in my big toe I had, had enough. I was told by a friend to see Dr. Palmer and after the first adjustment I was glad I had. I could finally feel the sensation returning to my big toe. I have been seeing Dr Palmer regularly over the last month and I am now pain free, I have also noticed a remarkable improvement in my flexibility and energy levels. Thank you so much for helping me get my life back.
